Bird Conservation

This project focuses on the preservation of Mexican birds in danger of extinction through the study and reproduction of specimens in captivity such as the magpie copetona and the toucan real piapoco. However, recently, due to deforestation, it has been decided to introduce species such as the scarlet and military guacamayas, and the blue-headed parrot.

The project also tries to raise awareness that the problem behind the extinction of so many species is often the destruction of their natural habitat through human activity. Volunteers will help in constructing an aviary that receives, as a breeding base, birds that have been confiscated or donated. This involves care and feeding of the birds in their new homes, especially those that are sick and need special treatment.

Over the past few years, the centre has obtained much significant information about the birds through study of their behaviour and reproduction, but the main achievement has been making the birds happy in captivity - there have been several incidences where one escaped by accident but returned to its cage by itself. This is an exciting project for volunteers to show a true commitment to the welfare of bird species of Mexico.
